01Tree Lopping

Protect your property, keep the tree

Tree lopping removes or shortens branches to make a tree safer and keep it clear of buildings, fences, driveways and lines. Done properly, it reduces risk without leaving the tree weak, ugly or prone to decay.

Our arborists use the right cuts in the right places, removing dead, crossing and overextended limbs while keeping the tree’s structure intact. We work in suburban backyards, commercial sites and larger properties, using climbing gear or elevated work platforms depending on access.

In Cairns, lopping before the wet season is one of the best ways to reduce storm damage. If a tree needs more than branch work, we’ll tell you, and talk you through pruning or removal options.

03Good to know

Why you shouldn’t lop it yourself

Lopping looks simple, but it’s one of the most common causes of DIY injuries and damaged trees. Working at height with a chainsaw is dangerous without training, and a branch that swings the wrong way can take out a roof, a fence or a person.

Poor cuts also do lasting harm. Stubs and flush cuts let decay in, and heavy topping triggers weak, fast regrowth that breaks easily in the next storm. You might save a little now, but you and the tree pay for it later.

  • Qualified climbers and EWP operators
  • Correct pruning cuts that heal properly
  • Fully insured for work at height

06FAQs

Tree Lopping questions

Why can’t I just lop my own trees?

It’s dangerous without training and the right equipment, and incorrect lopping can permanently damage a tree, encouraging disease and weak regrowth. A small saving now often costs more later.

What’s the difference between lopping and pruning?

Lopping usually means cutting back or removing larger branches for clearance or safety. Pruning is more selective work to improve a tree’s health and structure. We’ll recommend whichever suits the tree.

When is the best time to lop trees in Cairns?

Before the wet season is ideal for storm preparation, but dead or hazardous limbs should be dealt with as soon as you notice them.

Do I need approval to lop a tree?

Most clearance work doesn’t, but some protected trees need approval for any significant work. We’ll check for you during the quote.
